The device was first referenced in martial arts training halls in Okinawa, Japan over 200 years ago. The home of Japane’s oldest Karate style, the tiny island of Okinawa developed a fighting system that was simple and direct with lethal abilities. Training methods inclded simple devices made from everyday objects easily attainable by local farmers & tradesmen. Commonly made of a small mill stone attached to a wood handle, the Chi-Ishi was designed to improve stregth in the arms and hands as well as being useful to increase flexibility in the wrist, elbow and shoulders. Used properly, the Chi-Ishi can greatlty improve core stregth overall. 280 West has brought this effective ancient training device to modern day with a fresh look and feel.
